About Ridge to Rivers

The Ridge to Rivers is an interconnected network of roads and trails courses through the hills, linking not only neighborhoods with public lands but also connecting people with the natural environment. With over 190 miles of trails, there is something for everyone.

Thanks to Ridge to Rivers, here is a overview of general etiquette when hiking along the trails:

Be mindful.

Every user on the trail is a fellow nature lover. Be mindful and expect to see other folks around every corner.

Don’t use wet trails.

If you are leaving prints (hoof, tire, or boot), the trail is too wet to use. If you encounter muddy stretches of trail, please turn around to prevent further damage. Keep up to date on current trail conditions by checking the Ridge to Rivers website or following Ridge to Rivers on Facebook.

Stay on the trail.

Do not go off trail (even to pass), create new trails, or cut switchbacks. Narrow trails mean less environmental impact and happier critters.

Be respectful.

It’s a simple concept: if you offer respect, you are more likely to receive it. All user groups have rights and responsibilities to Boise’s trails, and to each other.

Don’t block trails.

When taking a break, move to the side of the trail.

unsplash-image--GFCYhoRe48.jpg

It’s National Hamburger Month and what better way to celebrate than to give you some of my favorite spots to grab a burger here in the City of Trees!

Now...before we get into that...a little bit about myself:

I started my #burgerjourney and created BurgerBOI (www.burgerboiboise.com) in the midst of COVID. I’ve always wanted to find a way to share my passion and creativity, as well as, bring attention to all of the great burger options that Boise and the rest of the Treasure Valley has to offer. As terrible as the pandemic has been, it actually gave me the time to catapult my ideas into fruition!

BurgerBOI has been an incredible outlet. It has allowed me to flex my culinary ingenuity, as well as, give me the opportunity to connect with some really AMAZING people. It has also given me the platform to encourage people to support/buy/shop local; which is more important now than ever!

Love in the BOI: Kylee & Cody

Describe How You Two Originally Met. Be Descriptive

65370B5B-2CB1-4902-8480-D001D7C248C1 - Kylee Mueller.jpeg

Cody & I met on the school bus (in Meridian) Cody was a 6th grader and I was in 8th grade. It was the ‘cool thing’ to sit in the back of the bus, so I let Cody be my bus buddy. He was this adorable little chubby boy who was still in his braces & just so innocent. We actually had the same bus stop & has to walk in the same general area to our houses. We became friends over the next year and enjoyed our morning talks on the bus & walks home talking in the afternoon. We joked that we would date later in life, because he was too young for me. That led to saying hi in the high school hallways and talking every now and then when we’d run into each other.

Describe Your First Date and/or First Memories Together.

A2793CA2-3547-42BB-8F31-FCEF0BA06645 - Kylee Mueller.jpeg

We ran into each other at the Chevron gas station on Eagle rd on July 3rd 2013. I had been graduated for a year and hadn’t seen him since. We chatted in the parking lot for a few minutes then said goodbye and went our separate ways. In the fall of 2013 I had just moved to Texas for an adventure of my own, Cody was entering his senior year of high school. He dm’d me on Twitter and we starting talking again then we exchanged numbers. After a few days of talking Cody joked that I should move home that summer since he will officially be 18 and graduated from high school & we could date. I was coming back home for Christmas break and Cody wanted to take me on a date, I agreed. The evening of December 7, 2013 Cody picked me up from my parents house, came up to the door and introduced himself to my parents (scored major points with my dad) then opened my car door for me. He ended up taking me to The Village because I hadn’t been there before. We talked, walked around and realized it was December and freezing. We went to Lucky Perk off Eagle Rd. And had some coffee/hot chocolate and continued talking. Afterwards we both didn’t want the date to end so we went back to his house and watched Friday Night Lights the movie, because he was making fun of me for watching the series but never seeing the movie. We cuddled and watched the movie and continued to hang out almost every day for the next 5 weeks while I was still home from Texas. I was planning on moving home in the summer so we agreed that we wanted to try distance and make it work. I went to his high school prom and that’s when he said I love you for the first time. Cody then went on to college in WA and NM to continue playing baseball. I stayed in Boise and we did distance for 4.5 years and have been together for 7 years now. We will be getting married this summer July 17th 2021. I wish I could go back in time and thank my 13 year old self for making the best decision by picking a Cody to be her bus buddy. He’s my everything ❤️

Why do you love living in Boise? Describe some of your favorite things to do in Boise and/or Idaho together.

6624E266-D67E-40AE-826F-7B9BFC921341 - Kylee Mueller.jpeg

Both of us were born and raised in Meridian ID and grew up about .5 miles apart. We love Boise for so many reason; first off of course our families. We continue to go to Sunday night dinners and rotate to each other parents house. Secondly the outdoors, Idaho is so beautiful and has so many things to do and see. Cody is a hunter and loves archery!! We love the lakes to go boating, jet skiing and camping. Going up to Donnelly & McCall spending weekends with friends. We love hiking with the dogs and floating the Boise & Payette rivers. Cody loves going skiing every weekend in the winter. We love how Idaho has all 4 seasons, both of us leaving Idaho during college we became grateful for the seasons. I missed the mountains & fall when the leaves are changing colors. Texas definitely didn’t have either of those.

What advice do you have for those searching for love?

Your person is out there, somewhere. They may be closer than you ever imagined and they will come into your life at the right time. Do not force anyone to be in your life if they want to leave let them. The right one will come along when you least expect it, cheesy I know. But I found that to be so true, Cody was .5 miles away from me for YEARS and things worked out exactly how they were suppose to, when they were suppose to.

Love in the BOI: Victoria & Terrence

PXL_20201102_020708816 - Victoria Plaster.jpg

Describe How You Two Originally Met.

Terrence and I never thought we'd meet our future partner through a dating app. Yet, that's how it started. I was about to delete the app, tired of the mindless scrolling I did when I was tired or bored when I came across his profile on a Friday evening. There was something...different about this one. Immediately I set my phone down and did something I hadn't done in a long time, prayed. If it wasn't a match I was going to go through with deleting the app. If it was a match then I prayed for him to be my future husband, that it would be the next step of my journey to love. I picked my phone up, swiped right, and wouldn't you know...it was a match. Terrence and I met on an app where the female has to initiate the conversation. I had no clue what to say so I started with something sincere. 'I hope you had a great Friday and that you have an awesome weekend' or something like that. Terrence responded right away and by that Monday, March 16th, we were on our first date. That day Terrence asked for my number whereas every other guy I met through the app kept the conversation but never 'made a move' and didn't bother to talk outside of the app.

FB_IMG_1603109893286 - Victoria Plaster.jpg

Describe Your First Date and/or First Memories Together

In Terrence's words, our first date was unconventional and amazing. March 16th was the day Boise started closing. We had made plans to meet at one place but had to change them due to restrictions being set in place due to COVID-19. Even with everything starting to become clear to us and more uncertain of what the future looked like with this virus we kept the date. At the restaurant we were able to talk so freely and comfortably that the waitress was almost 'unwelcome' because her visits to the table interrupted our conversation. At this point I don't think either of us knew this would be our first and last public outing together for quite awhile. We were eventually kicked out so the place could close early for the pandemic. Even though we had to exit the building we both didn't want the night to end. We spent the next few hours getting to know each other and our 6 o'clock date lasted until close to 10. Warranting, of course, a second date. Time went on and so did COVID AND our relationship. On November 1, 2020 Terrence got down on one knee and proposed right outside the restaurant we first met at, in front of the Boise sign!

FB_IMG_1602347332064 - Victoria Plaster.jpg

Why do you love living in Boise? Describe some of your favorite things to do in Boise and/or Idaho together

Terrence and I both grew up in Boise. I found myself leaving for a few years but coming back because I truly call Idaho my Idahome. Throughout quarantine Terrence and I were able to get to know each other on a deeper level because we couldn't do the 'normal' dates. Dinners and movies went out the window and were replaced by late night drives. We found ourselves driving the back roads, exploring Lucky Peak on our paddleboards, and romping around the many foothills Boise has to offer. We truly love it here! The sun is bright and the snow is beautiful. We have a great combination of city and rural life. The mountains are inviting and the people are fun! I truly don't see us leaving anytime soon.

Resized_20200831_124534 - Victoria Plaster.jpg

What advice do you have for those searching for love?

Our advice would be to recognize your past relationships and more so notice what you were missing in them. Our pasts, despite having many ups and downs, led us into being the people we are today. Let go of judgment and really get to know people instead of following dating 'norms'. Ask questions! Even though they may be uncomfortable talk about the big topics in life-the deal breakers. This will help you in being up front, avoiding hurt later, and finding your ideal partner sooner. That's what we did. Our first date Terrence and I talked about the three things you're NOT supposed to bring up on the first date: exes, politics, and religion. On our second date we had questions for each other in relation to our futures: kids, career, goals. Don't put on a front and let things happen. Find peace in yourself and maybe even try a dating app or two. Put effort into your profile and who knows...you might find your honey too.

Love in the BOI: Dawayne and Alexandra

792A1783-FBF4-44E6-976F-C95FE68EAD3C - Alex Bruce.jpeg

Describe How You Two Originally Met.

Dawayne and I have a pretty cute story to tell. We somehow ended up as friends on Facebook years ago, but never interacted with one another at all. Like... not even once. Then one day Dawayne posed a question to his friends via a post, asking “I want to get to know you guys better... who on my friends list enjoys reading and if yes, how often?”. I responded, and went into detail about my very particular taste in novels. Turns out that he had the same taste!! I had just finished an incredible book and offered to let him borrow it, asking only for a book to borrow in return. On the night we exchanged books, we ended up talking for hours while the similarities piled up between us. Fast forward through many adventures and you’ll find us here, making this new house on the greenbelt into a home with our two sweet rescue dogs.

Describe Your First Date and/or First Memories Together

Gosh, we have so many epic memories together already, it’s tough to narrow it down. We are both fueled by the sun, and are passionate about reading and spending time outside. Our first date after we exchanged books, we met up at Quinn’s pond and went out on his paddle board together before settling in on the beach to read and bask in the sun. He took me to The Funky Taco afterwards, and on the way there my mom called and I told her where we were going. She said, with a smile in her voice, “the book guy?” and I said yes with the same smile. I had already called her to gush about him when I left his house for the exchanging of books. After our meal (which was awesome by the way), I excused myself to use the restroom. When I walked out to find him, he was standing on the corner of 8th street, beet red, talking to MY PARENTS!!!!! They were having dinner at Asiagos when I told her we were headed downtown and she decided to surprise us and say hello! Dawayne took meeting my stalker parents on the first date very well, and we have all shared a laugh about that story a few times since. He liked the fact that my mom recognized him, because he knew that meant I’d been talking about him already. And in quite a bit of detail!

Why do you love living in Boise? Describe some of your favorite things to do in Boise and/or Idaho together

We genuinely love this great state. We love spending time reading at the river or a lake or a pond on the beach, we love hiking in the mountains and hills with the dogs, we love adventuring to hot springs and different historical sights... there’s so many wonderful, beautiful places right at our fingertips, and we want to make sure we are appreciating as many of them as we can to their fullest potential. Living in Boise, we have the unique opportunity to take in some pretty incredible natural beauty every single day. Our morning walk with the dogs begins at 7:10 am, and while walking towards the greenbelt as a family, we get to see the silhouette of the mountains as the sun gets ready to peak out from behind them to wake the city. Our shared love for where we live is a huge part of the reason we fell in love with each other in the first place.

I’ve been writing about us while lying on the floor next to him in his office with my feet up on his lap. He’s rubbing them in between mouse clicks and sentences typed. I looked up at him and asked him this question (what advice do you have for those searching for love), and this was his response: “Look for the person you want to spend the rest of your life with, not the rest of next week.” I’m going to have to agree with that sentiment, and add that while we are not perfect, we are willing to communicate openly and honestly, and own where we each fall short. If you find someone who’s willing to do this with you, then you’ve found someone worth creating a future with.

Describe How You Two Originally Met.

John and I are both native to Boise, born and raised in this beautiful city. But we are 8 years apart. So we didn’t meet in high school or fall in love in college. We met at a bar! He was working at Taphouse and I was a teacher on summer vacation! It was a Tuesday, so it wasn’t going to be a crazy night, right? Well this is how the story goes: I was with a girl friend, and we had both just gotten out of long term relationships. I was definitely not looking for anything but my friend was. She thought John was super cute, so I told her to go for it girl! She started flirting and I started texting. Well about an hour went by and I started to get bored and I could tell they weren’t going anywhere. So I started to go back and forth with John, and he found out that I like fireball. He then started to feed me fireball... let’s just say I get chattier and sassier the more I drink. He loved it! I ended up helping him close the bar, yes I even mopped the kitchen. We explored a few more spots downtown, and ended at Pie Hole. This part I am not proud of...I proceeded to order and eat 4 pieces of pie hole pizza right in front of him.... really attractive, I know! At the end of the night he walked us to our car, don’t worry my friend stopped drinking hours prior. This is where our first magical kiss is suppose to take place, right? Well I gave him probably the worst, stiff kiss you could ever imagine. As I walked away from him I thought, he will never call.... We have now been together for 5 years, married for 1 and are expecting our first baby the same month we met! Life is a funny, magical thing!

Describe Your First Date and/or First Memories Together.

One of our first memories was the first time we went downtown together. We had just started talking, and hadn’t really spent any alone time together. We were sitting at Silly Birch when a friend of John’s came over and started talking to him. John introduced me and his friend said, is this your girlfriend? John’s response, “She will be.” Another one of our early memories was the first time John spent time with my family. My family is very close and my parents LOVE to go for long drives. My parents invited us to come along on their weekend drive, and somehow I suckered John into coming. Saying it would be fun and quick! Well we ended up taking the backroads from Cascade to Yellow Pine, which ended up being like a 6 hour drive. Nice and quick right?! Haha

Why do you love living in Boise? Describe some of your favorite things to do in Boise and/or Idaho together. *

We love Boise because there are so many things to do: hiking in the foothills with our pups, boating up at lucky peak, skiing at Tamarack and snowmobiling through the beautiful mountains! We also love traveling and exploring all the wonderful cities and towns Idaho has to offer. Some of our favs: Cascade, Moscow, Sun Valley, Orofino, Yellow Pine, Stanley, Blackfoot, Coeur d’Alene, Warren and Challis!
